MARTINEZCELAYA.ORG is a research archive curated by Dr. Daniel A. Siedell. Its aim is to preserve, document, and interpret the work of Enrique Martínez Celaya as well as its critical reception, influences and implications.


Daniel A. Siedell teaches modern and contemporary art history, theory, and criticism at the University of Nebraska-Omaha and is Director of Special Projects, Whale & Star, Miami, Florida.  From 1996-2007 he was Chief Curator at the Sheldon Museum of Art where he organized numerous exhibitions of modern and contemporary art.  He has an M.A. in art history, theory, and criticism from SUNY-Stony Brook (1991), and a Ph.D. in post-World War II art and criticism from The University of Iowa (1995).  He writes on the critics of Abstract Expressionism, religion and spirituality in contemporary art, and the work of Enrique Martínez Celaya.  His books include Weldon Kees and the Arts at Midcentury (University of Nebraska Press, 2003), God in the Gallery (Baker Academic, 2008), and An Excavation of Tenth Street:  Essays on Abstract Expressionism (Forthcoming, 2011).  He lectures widely on art, theology, and philosophy and his many essays have appeared in such journals as the Journal of Aesthetic Education, Journal of Modern Literature, IMAGE, Books & Culture.  He is at work with theologian of culture William Dyrness on a book on religion and modern art.
